C and Visual C++ Application Developer

I enjoy web development mostly because, for a modest amount of effort, you can give somebody something special and very important for them - a presence in the world arena.

That said, my favorite effort is still in Application Development. The process still wakes me up in the morning, especially if I have something interesting and useful to do. My primary satisfaction is in making an application or a tool that will somehow move the world forward. I feel that the utmost purpose of automation is to free people from drudgery, from menial tasks that are such a waste of what the human mind and spirit is meant to be. Let the machines do what they're good at and let people do what's truly special. That pursuit is what I hope to accomplish with the skills that I've been given.

• My primary skill base and experience has been in the field of C & Visual C++ development for a telephone billing product that's been on the market for about 29 years.

Skills

• There's one thing that each of us is good at (at least one and hopefully more) and for me that is programming. It is like breathing air and drinking water, something you don't even have to think about to do well.
• Out of necessity I have also learned how to program in a way that an application can grow and become more rather than less efficient over time, and can do so safely so that I and my team can sleep well at night.
• My weakness, like anything, is that every field, especially the computer field, is so vast and complex that one can generally only become an expert in a narrow range of areas. There's much I don't know how to do, but one can learn anything and what I am good at, I am very good at.
